Gender & Sexuality in Same-Sex Partners
As part of NYSSCSW's
51st Annual Education Conference - Emerging Voices
51st Annual Education Conference - Emerging Voices
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Same sex partners often feel perplexed when homophobia, sexism, misogyny, and social values get intertwined leaving it difficult to flesh out relationship roles due to socially constructed narratives. This talk will weave in theories of gender, sexual identity and the stages of self-acceptance as well as false versus true self-identification. We as clinicians need to overturn limited and limiting models of gender and sexuality, no matter where our patients fall on these spectrums. We need to help them discover where they are landing and how to tolerate ambiguity and fluidity.
